Bio

Cole Mauter enters his second season as a member of the Ohlone College staff in the 2023-24 season.  Mauter brings plenty of coaching experience with him, with his most recent stop being at Cuesta College (San Luis Obispo, CA).

Mauter will fill a variety of roles here with Ohlone College, none more important than the role of recruiting coordinator (which he held in the 2023 season) and now pitching coach.  “I have gotten to know Coach Mauter over the span of a couple of years,” said Mike Curran, who has led the Ohlone College baseball program since 2014.  “He is incredibly driven, extremely organized, and works like crazy to identify top-level talent.  He has a passion for teaching the game and connecting with players.  He is deeply involved in professional development and figuring out the best ways to help our pitchers grow, develop, and increase their velocity.  We are lucky to have him.”

Coach Mauter's background is diverse.  “He can work with pitchers, you can plug him in with outfielders; I think there’s a variety of roles he can perform in.  I’ve noticed that he’s always trying to expand his knowledge of the game – so if we need him somewhere, he’ll can fill the role easily.”  Mauter is also the program’s de-facto “tech” guru.  “We have just received funding for cameras.  Once installed (installation will be completed in early 2024), we’ll be able to increase our program’s capabilities by installing Synergy (a software company that breaks down every player’s at-bat or inning, pitch-by-pitch).  Coach Mauter has led the way on helping us get things organized in that area.”

In two previous seasons at Cuesta College, Mauter coached pitchers, with a tremendous amount of success.  The 2022 team won the Western State Conference Championship behind the strength of it’s pitching.  Prior to Cuesta, he was the Head Coach at Gilroy High School for two seasons (2019 and ‘20) and the associate pitching coach at KPI Baseball from 2018 – ‘20, one of the top up-and-coming development centers on the West Coast.  KPI Baseball is evaluation / development center which aims to help players increase their ability and performance levels through data-driven analysis.

Mauter is no stranger to the Coast Conference, as he played at Monterey Peninsula College in 2013 and ’14, where he was named CCCAA All-Academic All-State in ’14.  He transferred to the University of Puget Sound (WA), where he pitched during the 2015 and ‘16 seasons, and graduated in ’16 with a degree in History.  Since then, Mauter recently obtained a Masters in Coaching and Exercise Science from Concordia University – Irvine, in the Spring of 2022.

Mauter is married and lives with his wife Shayna.  The couple resides in Milpitas.
