Renegades wrap up regular season at Chabot Invitational

LIVERMORE – The Ohlone College swim team made its return to Las Positas College for the Chabot Invitational on Saturday. The meet was the final tune up before the Renegades head to postseason competition.

Highlights from the meet came from Fabian Taplin, Moataz Bayoumi, and the men's 400-yard freestyle relay team.

Fabian Taplin- 500 Free
Taplin showed up and showed out at the Chabot Invite, finishing first overall in both of his individual events at the meet. He especially shined during the 500 Freestyle, swimming a 4:59.10, the first Renegade to go under the five-minute mark in nearly a decade.

"It was an absolutely huge swim from the sophomore going into Coast Conference Championships," said Ohlone coach Elias Mendez.

Moataz Bayoumi- 100 Fly
The freshman butterflyer, Moataz Bayoumi, had incredible swims all throughout Saturday's meet, but his 100 Fly was historic. He finished with a time of 53.93, the fourth fastest time in Ohlone swimming history.

"Moataz is sure to carry this record swim into championships where he plans to continue his butterfly dominance," said Mendez.

Men's 400 Freestyle Relay
The Renegades' men's 4x100 freestyle relay team had a highlight swim to finish off the Chabot Invite. Fabian Taplin, Kato Tien, Christopher James, and Moata Bayoumi altogether swam a time of 3:31.50, which finished first overall as Ohlone captured first place in three different events for the first time all season.

Up next for Ohlone is the Coast Conference Championships on April 18-20 at Chabot College.
