Renegades earn series win over Monterey Peninsula

FREMONT – The Ohlone College baseball team won two games out of a three-game set to earn a Coast Conference series victory over Monterey Peninsula last week.

The Renegades took the opener on Tuesday at home by a final score of 14-7 and was a 4-3 winner at MPC on Thursday. But Ohlone came up short in earning a sweep and suffered an 11-0 loss in Saturday's series finale.

Ohlone moved to 15-8 overall and 2-1 in Coast Conference South Division. The Renegades begin another three-game Coast South series on Tuesday (Mar. 19) at home against Cabrillo College.

Game 1: Ohlone 14, Monterey Peninsula 7
Nico Azpilcueta launched a pair of home runs on his way to a 3 for 4 day at the plater with 4 RBI to helped lead Ohlone to the big win at home.

His three-run shot in the bottom of the first gave Ohlone a 3-1 lead. He added a solo homer in second to make it an 8-1 Ohlone advantage.

Brendan Comerford also had a big day, going 3 for 4 with 3 RBI, including a solo home run. Tucker Biehl (2 for 5) had 3 RBI and Scotty Pieper also drove in a pair.

Kieran Subramanian picked up the win in relief on the mound for Ohlone.

Game 2: Ohlone 4, Monterey Peninsula 3
Azpilcueta went yard for the third time in series, his two-run home run in the top of the seventh proved to be the game-winner in the Renegades' victory at MPC.

Comerford smacked his second homer in two games. He tied up the contest at 2-2 with his solo shot in the top of the fifth while Will Anderson's RBI-single in the third got Ohlone on the board.

Ray Hernandez put together a solid start in earning the win. He went 8 1/3 innings, allowing 3 runs and 9 hits. He struck out 11 and walked just 1. Diego Menjivar recorded the final 2 outs while stranding the tying run at third base for the save.

Game 3: Monterey Peninsula 11, Ohlone 0
The Renegades totaled 6 hits and left 14 runners on base in a tough loss to close the series at home. Comerford went 3 for 5 and stole a base to lead the Ohlone offense.

Jayden Harper took the loss despite pitching well in the start. He went 5 innings, allowing a run and 5 hits while striking out 7.
