Renegades edge Delta 2-1 for first win of 2023

STOCKTON – Sophomore Lenin Escobar scored a pair of goals and the Ohlone College defense held off a late San Joaquin Delta College surge to earn a 2-1 non-conference victory on the road on Friday.

The Renegades even up their early-season record at 1-1.

After a scoreless first half, the Ohlone offense finally came alive. Escobar gave the Renegades a 1-0 advantage after he knocked in a corner kick from Jaime Lozano in the 59^th minute.

He made it 2-0 just moments later when he scored off the cross from Sebastian Velazquez in the 63^rd minute.

Delta finally got on the board, cutting the lead in half with a goal in the 83^rd minute. But Ohlone goalkeeper Pedro Velez and the Renegades' defense was able to hang on for the victory. Velez totaled 6 saves in the contest.

Ohlone is back in action on Tuesday (Sep. 5) when the Renegades host College of Marin in its home opener. The match marks the first of eight straight home games for Ohlone.
