Renegades battle in loss at Merced

MERCED – Freshman Logan Granzella scored a team-high 4 goals and added 3 assists to lead the Ohlone College men's water polo team in a tough 22-12 Coast Conference loss at Merced College on Wednesday.

Granzella is off to an impressive start in his first collegiate season with the Renegades. After Wednesday's action, he leads Ohlone with 15 goals and is tied for the team-high with 7 assists.

Ohlone led early in the contest against Merced, holding a 4-3 lead after the first quarter. The two squads battled in the second, exchanging leads before Granzella tied up the game at 7-7 with 2:43 to go in the period.

But Merced pulled away by scoring eight unanswered goals over the final minutes of the second and into the third quarters.

Nathan Young and Avery Ramirez both poured in 3 goals each while Hunter Putnam and Teddy Gregorian rounded out the scoring for Ohlone. Arjan Behrooz contributed 4 assists.

The loss dropped Ohlone to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in Coast Conference play. The Renegades are back in action at home on Wednesday (Oct. 11) to take on state No. 2-ranked West Valley College at 3 p.m.
