SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Ohlone College men's water polo team put together a solid weekend of play, facing some of the best competition in the state at the Cuesta College Tournament in San Luis Obispo.

The Renegades faced a huge task in opening the event on Friday against No. 2 state-ranked Saddleback. Logan Granzella scored twice while Arjan Behrooz and Avery Ramirez both had goals in the 20-4 loss to the Bobcats.

That was followed by a 19-6 setback against Modesto. Ramirez tallied 3 goals with Granzella, Nathan Young, and Hunter Putman scoring single goals for the Renegades.

Ohlone nearly completed a late-game comeback in its opening match on Saturday against a tough Merced squad. Trailing 14-7 after three quarters, the Renegades scored five times but came up short in a 16-12 loss.

Granzella had a big game with 4 goals to lead Ohlone. Behrooz, Young, Putman, and Ramirez all added 2 goals each with Young posting 4 assists.

The Renegades closed out the weekend on a high note, posting a 20-15 win over Las Positas before heading home.

The two squads battled to a 9-9 score at halftime before Ohlone outscored Las Positas 7-6 in the third quarter to take a narrow one-goal (16-15) lead into the final period.

In the fourth, the Renegades' defense clamped down to hold Las Positas scoreless while Young scored 3 of his 4 goals of the game to help lead the charge.

Granzella saves his best game for last, torching the Hawks for a game-high 8 goals. Putman added 4 goals while Behrooz and Teddy Gregorian scored twice. Joshua Hsieh posted 7 saves in goal for the Renegades.

Ohlone moved to 3-8 overall after the weekend's action. The Renegades return to the pool on Oct. 20 to play at Diablo Valley College.
