Ohlone knocks off No. 4 state-ranked West Valley, 6-3
SARATOGA – Emma Ham did it all for Ohlone College in its 6-3 upset victory at No. 4 state-ranked West Valley College on Wednesday.
From the circle, the sophomore scattered 7 hits and allowed just 3 runs in a complete-game effort. At the plate, she was credited with 4 RBI, including the go-ahead runs late in the contest in helping lead Ohlone to the Coast Conference win.
The Renegades snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 9-8 overall as well as 2-1 conference play. Ohlone put an end to West Valley's seven-game winning streak as the Vikings fell to 16-4 and 2-1 in the Coast Conference.
Ohlone twice fell behind in the contest and was able to answer. After giving up a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, the Renegades responded by scoring twice in the top of the second. Keely Chen smacked a two-run triple to tie up the game.
West Valley added a run in the third only to have Ohlone go back out in front with 2 runs in the fourth. Ham's fielder's choice allowed both runs to score to put the Renegades out in front for good.
In the sixth, Ham sealed the Ohlone win with a two-run double.
The Renegades return to action on Friday (Mar. 8) when they host Hartnell College in a Coast Conference game.
