Renegades go 1-1 to open season at Bakersfield Crossover

BAKERSFIELD – The 2023-24 Ohlone College women's basketball season officially got underway over the weekend at the Bakersfield College Crossover tournament. But the Renegades had to wait one more day to hit the court after Los Angeles Southwest College forfeited their opening-day game on Thursday.

On Friday, Ohlone finally made its debut but suffered a 79-50 loss to host Bakersfield.

The Renegades fell behind early, trailing 9-2 midway through the first quarter and went into the second down 15-8. The deficit was too much to overcome.

Sophomore Erin Ta had a solid game for the Renegades, scoring 13 points to go along with 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Freshman Mahek Dhillon contributed 12 points off the bench while sophomore Maizie Pimental totaled 7 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.

Ohlone, officially 1-1 overall, returns to action on Friday (Nov. 10) when the Renegades travel to College of Marin for the two-day Marin Crossover. Ohlone is schedule to play Yuba College at 1 p.m. followed by a 5 p.m. game on Saturday against host Marin.
