Ohlone selects Eddie Hernandez to lead women’s soccer program

FREMONT – Ohlone College Dean of Kinesiology, Athletics and Performing Arts Chris Warden has announced the hiring of Eddie Hernandez as the Renegades' new head coach of the women's soccer team for the upcoming 2025 fall season.
"We are very excited to have Coach Hernandez as the new leader for our women's soccer program," said Warden. "He brings a great deal of experience, both as a player and as a coach, where he will have the potential to elevate our program within the conference and once again create playoff buzz."
A native of the East Bay and Washington High School graduate, Hernandez began his collegiate soccer journey as a student-athlete at Ohlone where he played for two seasons (2014-15) before transferring to Warner Pacific University in Portland, Oregon.
"I'm excited to return home to Ohlone College," said Hernandez. "I'm determined to turn the women's soccer program into a competitive and successful team."
Hernandez began his collegiate coaching career at Ohlone in 2019 as a graduate assistant for the men's soccer team. Since then, Hernandez has gained extension coaching experience from various levels, ranging from youth club, collegiate, and professional soccer:
• Fremont Rush Youth Soccer Club: Technical Director, overseeing player development, coach training, operations, and club administration.
• Bay Cities FC: Assistant Coach at the professional level in the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA). During his time with Bay Cities FC, Hernandez coached against high-level teams, including the San Jose Earthquakes (MLS), Monterey Bay FC (USL Championship), and Guatemala's U23 National Team.
• Menlo College: Assistant Coach, where he helped the team win an NAIA league title, advance to the second round of the national tournament, and transition to NCAA Division II, securing a second-place league finish in their first season.
• San Ramon Football Club: Currently coaching girls' teams and the women's WPSL team.
Hernandez feels his dedication to player development and passion for the program's success align with his vision to elevate the program to new heights. He emphasizes a holistic coaching approach, focusing on developing players both on and off the field. His ability to build well-rounded athletes and foster strong team cultures has been a cornerstone of his coaching success.
Hernandez earned an associate's degree in human development from Ohlone. He holds a bachelor's degree in human development from California State University, East Bay and a master's degree in coaching and athletics administration from Concordia University, Irvine.
