Renegades beat CCSF in 5, split opening day matches at Sacramento City

SACRAMENTO – The 2023 Ohlone College women's volleyball season got off to a good start. Competing at the Sacramento City College Tournament on Wednesday, the Renegades split its matches to go 1-1.

Ohlone opened the event 0-3 (27-25, 25-16, 25-14) to the host, Sacramento City, but bounced back with a marathon 25-17, 21-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-8 victory over City College of San Francisco in five sets for its first win of the season.

Sophomore Gabriella Rachal totaled 12 kills and 21 digs over the two matches to lead Ohlone. She posted 7 kills and 11 digs against CCSF while Rilee Nobori also had 7 kills and Kaylie Gomes posted 12 digs, 4 kills, and 3 aces. Zoe Greer led the Renegades with 28 assists to go along with 10 digs, and 2 aces.

Ohlone returns to action at home this weekend when it hosts the Renegade Classic and the Ohlone Classic. The two-day tourney gets underway on Friday (Sep. 1) and also features visiting San Francisco, Taft, Mendocino, and Porterville colleges.

The Renegades take on Taft at 2 p.m. and Mendocino at 6 p.m. on Friday and will face Porterville (2 p.m.) and CCSF (6 p.m.) on Saturday.
