Renegades, Cooper earn first win with 15-2 rout of Laney
FREMONT – It has been a tough start to the 2024 Ohlone College women's water polo season for first-year head coach Lisa Cooper and her Renegades squad. Although it took seven tries, Cooper and the Renegades are in the win column thanks to a 15-2 Coast Conference victory over visiting Laney College on Friday.
It is career win No. 347 for Cooper after she became the winningest coach in Cal State East Bay history in any sport with 346 victories over 22 years.
On Friday, Ohlone led 7-0 after the first quarter and went into halftime up 12-0. Ariana Leyva led Ohlone with 4 goals while Alyssa Herron and Julie Marshall both scored three. Negaah Pourhamzeh had a solid game with 2 goals and 5 assists while the Renegades got single goals from Karen Di Dio, Molly Canales, and Teagan Rees.
Maia Gomes Medeiros earned the win in goal for Ohlone and posted 9 saves.
Ohlone improved to 1-6 overall and in conference play. The Renegades are back in action on Nov. 1 when they host City College of San Francisco in a 3 p.m. game.
